Nukus branch of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, as structural subdivision of IFAS, was established in February 1996 to development and implementation of specific projects and programs for environmental health and social improvement population affected by the ecological crisis of the basin Aral Sea on the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. For the period existence, the Nukus branch of EC IFAS implemented a number of specific projects.In 1996-1997, with the assistance of the Executive Committee of IFAS and the Council Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the project "Urgent assistance to the population" worth 536.2 thousand dollars, which was financed and implemented under the supervision of the World Bank. Basic the purpose of the project was to provide urgent social assistance the population of the Aral Sea region and the elimination of the gap in the interim period up to the start of the implementation of the main projects under the Aral Sea basin program sea (ASBP).More than 3,000 dolls were purchased as part of this project netting materials for fishermen, 14 ambulances, 4 vehicles "Damas" and textbooks for 4 orphanages located in Khodjeyli district, special equipment was purchased for the orphanage of educational deaf and dumb children, more than 2000 low-income families of Bozatau and Muynak regions providing children's clothing, purchasing livestock and payment of parental contributions for one year in children's preschool institutions.In 1999, the branch implemented a project "Organization of diagnosis and treatment of urolithiasis and gallstone diseases in Nukus" worth 1.9 million US dollars, at the expense of which the newly created self-supporting urological center was equipped with state of the art medical equipment for the treatment of urolithiasis, prostate adenoma and chronic prostatitis by non-surgical method.

In the midst of the most severe low water of 2000-2001, when in the northern areas lacked not only irrigation, but also drinking water for population, the Nukus branch implemented the project "Capital repair of rural pumping stations and improvement of water supply rural population".For this project, repair and restoration work at 8 head water intake facilities where pumping equipment is installed in 28 wells and 5 ECOS. As a result, improved drinking water supply for 56241 people of the rural population of Karauzaksky, Bozatau,Takhtakupyr Chimbai, Kanlykul, Khodjeyli and Nukus regions, as well as desert zones Turtkul, Ellikala and Beruni districts. Besides, in the same year, due to the contribution of the Republic of Uzbekistan to IFAS, financial support to ensure input into operation "Treatment and preventive center for 35 beds in Takhtakupyr district" in the amount of 93.0 million soums and "Maternity hospital for 60 beds in Karauzyak district" for 100.0 million soums. In pursuance of Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 3 2004 "On the establishment of a charitable foundation for the protection of the gene pool Aral Sea, dated January 25, 2005 "On the state program “Year of Health” the branch carried out the following activities: 34 medical institutions of the republic are equipped with imported equipment for the disinfection of drinking water, with a cost of 112 thousand dollars. Also, since 2014, the Nukus branch of the IFAS Executive Committee has started implementation of forest plantations on the site "Akhantay" with an area of 11.6 thousand hectares ha, located in the north-east of the city of Muynak and on the ridge "Akkum" with an area of 8.7 thousand hectares in the northern part of the lake system Sudochye. The main strategy of the projects is to reduce wind erosion, fixing moving sands and preventing salt and dust ingress into the city of Muynak, the village of Karazhar and adjacent territories to them, as well as to Lake Sudochye, planned for inclusion in the Ramsar list of wetlands with international importance. As part of projects as of 07/01/2018 forest plantations were carried out on an area of 4831 hectares at a cost of 2128.910 million soums.
